From 2012 to 2018, a new system of automatic enrolment for workplace pensions is being phased in so that most workers will automatically be made members of an employer pension scheme.
Rather than setting up their own pension schemes, many employers will use generic schemes supplied by NEST, NOW or The People’s Pension
- NEST was set up by government to offer a suitable workplace pension scheme for all employers.
- NOW: Pensions is run by ATP – an organisation originally set up by the Danish government to provide pensions in Denmark.
- The People’s Pension is run by B&CE, a not-for-profit organisation. B&CE has been providing pensions for the construction industry for many years and now does so for all sectors.
The Pension changes open up a number of financial opportunities in a complex area.
